Hello all,
I am considering buying on ebay (actually, I have a bid in) and I was hoping someone knew when the Chambers company changed hands. I am told it was in the mid fifties and at least according to my mother (who is a huge Chambers advocate) the quality was greatly impacted...any certain knowledge of the year this happened?
Also, what to do about a broken thermostat? How big a deal is it to rebuild?
This site is really wonderful - I am so glad to have found it! I like people who know what they like (and men who not only cook but juggle dogs...)

I had my thermostat rebuilt...there was a three day turn around offered for an additional $25.00...well worth it if waiting three weeks seems unreasonable. Painless experience.

I was told by a man who grew up in the home of one of CHAMBERS' top men (and who followed the Company through the different ownerships), that his dad felt that the BEST ones were made before the move to Oxford, Mississippi, which was in the late 1950's. The later ones were "ok", but no one ever put the effort into the quality of their manufacture as did the original people.

I had my thermostat rebuilt through Sam The Uncertain Stoveman. It was fast and affordable! See his listing on ebay or you could contact him through one or another of these threads.

When you do get your Chambers be sure to get the service manual and Idle Hour Cookbook.
A must for all Chamber owners!!
Todd or Sam are the best sources for Chambers literature.
Welcome, good luck and keep us posted!!
